Every 4-5 years the marketing department of hifi companies decide they need new ranges to have a story to tell. At Kef it's often the other way round, the engineers invent something so ground breaking that updates are needed to improve the performance.
4 years ago Kef announced Meta material, a way of taking away the rear output from treble and midrange resulting in much clearer performance on vocal and above. It started in Blade and Reference, then the latest R series, and now a simplified version has reached their entry level Q range.
Meta is no cheap option, it's a real improvement so as with the rest of the planet prices have gone up.
We now have Q1 and Q3 bookshelf/stand mounts at £ 499 and £ 649
These feature a single UNI-Q drive unit with the famous treble unit with waveguide inside a bass unit.
Next up is a larger stand mount that adds an extra bass unit, these are Q Concerto, resurrecting a famous old Kef name as the engineers love this model.
Two floor standing models are above this at £ 1399 and 1999
A centre speaker and a new super slim complete the line up.
Every model in this new range is a significant improvement in the sound. As well as adding meta the drive units and cabinets are all new and improved. These are probably the finest speakers in the price range, their only competition? Kef LS50 Meta !!
