Miles Davis 100, Kind Blue Special Edition
Two weeks ago we were celebrating 100 years since the birth of the genius Miles Davis. All around the world there were events including in Bangor. One night the Courthouse showed Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, Elevator to the gallows, a French movie from 1958 with a fantastic soundtrack by Miles Davis. While his quintet was playing in Paris he was shown a private screening and agreed to do the soundtrack. The band went to a studio and with only a few clues as to the moods improvised the whole album! Worth seeing the film, worth listening to the album.
The next night in the Courthouse Linley Hamilton assembled a quintet to play a first half of great Miles Davis songs and a second half of the Kind of Blue album straight through. Magical!
All of which brings me to how many times I have bought the Kind of Blue album!
1, my original vinyl copy, 2, the Nimbus vinyl repressing, 3, the first cd copy, it was awful so a few years later 4, the gold back CD version, 5, the 24 bit studio master download 6, an american repressing on vinyl. There could have been more but this brings me to:
7 UHQR Analogue Productions, quoted to be "The Holy Grail of Audiophile Vinyl"
Cut at 45 rpm and pressed on 200g vinyl and even at £ 179 I just had to buy it ! It is amazing, by a long way the best vinyl version.
Of course when it came out as a limited edition I bought 10 of them, of course they will go up in value, no problem. 3 years later I just came across them in a cupboard upstairs.
I see them used on ebay at £ 183 and one store looking £ 232 for their last one. There are 6 here, happy to take £ 150 each to Miles fans, like me.
