Who are Dynaudio? What is this Black Edition?

In 2027 Dynaudio will celebrate 50 years of making loudspeakers. And they actually do make drive units and cabinets at their home in Denmark! So many supposed 'loudspeaker manufacturers' farm it out to China that it's great to see the integrity of brands like Dynaudio.

From early days with Pro speakers, Dynaudio progressed to hifi cabinets and collaborating with Volvo on car speaker systems. They now make custom install and active speakers too, as well as manufacturing drive units for several upmarket brands. That list might surprise you but I'm not going to kiss and tell here!

I've always had a lot of respect for bookshelf Dynaudios, they do them really well and I especially love the Special Forty Edition. The range above that, Contour, has stand mounts from £4500 and goes to larger floorstanders at over £10k.

Now along comes a Contour special, the Black Edition. No surprise that it's only available in black, more surprising is that they have dropped the highest level Esotar3 treble unit from the Confidence range above into these and tweaked the bass unit too.

The starting Confidence 20s are almost £10,000, top ones are £24,000, so are these just a mad bargain at under £6k?Short answer is a big YES. From the first tune on these you realise that they are something special. Exceptional vocals and strings along with bass depth that usually belongs in a much larger cabinet. I've blasted these with XX bass, Mary Coughlan's earthy voice, delicacy from Damien Rice's Blower's daughter and even some rough early Stones! The accuracy of tone and the effortless detail is pretty amazing!

We have a few great speakers in this range to let you hear, just drop us a line to arrange a listen, I know you'll be impressed!
